Pashu Sanjeevani is a flagship scheme launched by the Government of India under the National Commission on Bovine Productivity, with a strong emphasis on improving healthcare for rural livestock. According to the Livestock Census Report 2012, India has nearly 300 million bovines, including 190.90 million cows and 108.7 million buffaloes.

Almost 90 percent of this bovine population resides in rural areas, with nearly 25 percent constantly exposed to various health risk categories. Despite several initiatives undertaken since independence—including India’s first Mobile Veterinary Dispensary launched by Amul in 1950—animal healthcare in villages remains grossly inadequate due to limited infrastructure and manpower.

India faces an acute shortage of veterinary hospitals, especially super-specialty facilities in village locations. Reaching over 6 lakh villages, ensuring availability of trained veterinary professionals, and providing timely clinical treatment to sick animals remain complex and unresolved challenges.

A cost-effective, scalable, and innovative solution is required to address this massive healthcare gap for rural livestock.

Animal Healthcare Camps (AHC-Camps) are organized village-level interventions designed to provide clinical treatment to sick animals directly at the doorsteps of livestock keepers. Instead of farmers traveling long distances to urban veterinary hospitals, super-specialty veterinarians visit villages to diagnose and treat animals on the spot.

  • Mobile Veterinary Polyclinic
  • Doorstep Clinical Treatment
  • Super-Specialty Veterinary Team
  • Immediate Diagnosis & Prescription

The uniqueness of this project lies in reversing the traditional model of animal healthcare delivery. Instead of livestock owners visiting distant veterinary dispensaries, specialized veterinarians reach farmers at their doorsteps through a Mobile Veterinary Polyclinic.

This approach ensures timely treatment, reduces animal mortality, enhances dairy productivity, safeguards farmers’ livelihoods, and strengthens the rural livestock economy in a sustainable and humane manner.
